English Version HSC ICT Note Chapter 2: Communication system and networking. Information and communication technology (ICT) is another/extensional term for information technology (IT) which stresses the role of unified communications and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals), computers as well as necessary enterprise software, middleware, storage, and audio-visual systems, which enable users to access, store, transmit, and manipulate information. The term ICT is also used to refer to the convergence of audio-visual and telephone networks with computer networks through a single cabling or link system. There are large economic incentives (huge cost savings due to the elimination of the telephone network) to merge the telephone network with the computer network system using a single unified system of cabling, signal distribution, and management.

After nearly 42 years of existence as an independent nation-state, there is a tendency to take our nationhood for granted. This comfortable belief is, however, an injustice. Bangladesh emerged under unique circomestances, which even today are influencing our national politics. While many leaders and activists played a part in the long struggle for the emergence of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s role was critical. National vs religious identities Before we became Bangladeshis, we were Indians and then Pakistanis. Our Indian identity was the byproduct of conquest when rulers from Northern India incorporated the peoples of Bengal into a succession of empires, which culminated in British India for two centuries from 1757 to 1947.

Question No.1

Mohon, a member of ‘Shobuj Bangla Club’ has captured some pictures of climate disaster through his cellphone and transferred these pictures to a laptop by following a special protocol of IEEE 802.15 standard. Later, Mohon has sent the pictures to the other members of the club via SHARE it.

  1. What is a Router?
  2. Explain the bandwidth of Data transfer from the keyboard to computer.2 Explain the type of Network used to transfer the picture to the laptop mentioned in the stem.
  3. Compare Wi-max with Hotspot used to send pictures to the other members of the club.

The answer to the question no. 1

  1. The procedure of sending data from one network to another is called Routing. The device that is used in Routing is called a Router. A Router is used to connect different networks.
  2. As only text or letter is transferred from keyboard to computer and the bandwidth used to send the text is Narrowband. Usually, Narrowband is 45-300 bps. This band is applicable for slow data transmission. In the case of telegraphy, the usual frequency is 300-3400 Hz. As the wire is used more in Telegraphy, the rate of data transfer is lower. That is why Narrow Band is used. It is also known as a sub-voice band.
  3. To transfer the picture in the laptop of the stem, a special protocol of IEEE 802.15 standard has been used. The special protocol of IEEE 802.15 standard is Blue-tooth. Bluetooth can form PAN (Personal Area Network). The network system to share information among different Information Technology Devices near a person is called PAN. The area of PAN is limited to 10 meters. A few examples of Information Technology Devices used in PAN are Laptop, PDA, Portable Printer, Mobile etc. PAN Network can be created at any home, office, car or at any place open for public. To build such a network, the cost is comparatively lower and information can be shared quicker.
