Chapter 12. Electricity in Daily Life. The purposes of using electricity are unlimited in our daily life. Electricity rotates the fan, illuminates the light and operates the radio, fridge, television, etc. Cooking can be done with electricity. Hence for a better understanding of its uses, we are to realize some general functions of electricity. This basic conception will ensure the proper use of electricity, help prevents the misuse of electricity and raises public awareness about the proper utilization of electricity.
Although we mention one electric cell as a battery in our daily life actually the combination of more than one cell is the battery. The construction of the battery is shown. The electrical energy is stored in a cell or battery to use in the future. There are three parts in a cell or battery. One anode and one cathode both outside the cell and electrolyte inside the cell. These anode and cathode are connected to an electric circuit. The anode is the positive terminal and the cathode is the negative terminal of the electrode.
Chapter 12. Electricity in Daily Life
We use electricity constantly in our daily lives. It is one of the most important types of power and energy that we use. Electricity travels to our house over power lines from a big power plant somewhere far away. … In our homes, we power lights, air conditioning, televisions, ovens, and more from electricity.
To maintain the life of the human community, and in order to facilitate life, many important inventions were discovered. There is no doubt that the most important of these inventions is electricity, which we depend on in the current modern time. We better understand the importance of electricity in our life for a few minutes of power outages we encounter. The people’s social life almost stops in power outages. They do not know what to do.
One very important thing about electricity is that we know how to complement it chemically – energy storage systems. With batteries that generate electricity via a chemical reaction, we can store energy with chemicals. Storing energy is really important when it comes to running a machine that requires a lot of energy or power. With a proper power converter, we are able to give out high power, which is important for running high power rating machines.
The electricity that we use is a secondary energy source because it is produced by converting primary sources of energy such as coal, natural gas, nuclear energy, solar energy, and wind energy, into electrical power. Electricity is also referred to as an energy carrier, which means it can be converted to other forms of energy such as mechanical energy or heat. Primary energy sources are renewable or nonrenewable energy, but the electricity we use is neither renewable nor nonrenewable.
Despite its great importance in daily life, few people probably stop to think about what life would be like without electricity. Like air and water, people tend to take electricity for granted. However, people use electricity to do many jobs every day—from lighting, heating, and cooling homes to powering televisions and computers.
